Getting your course running
How the system is meant to be used day to day, and where to turn when something does not look right.
A day on the course
- 1. Open up
- Open the app on a phone or tablet. The full course — elements, operating systems, rope and equipment registries, today's groups — is already on the device from the last sync, so it loads with or without signal.
- 2. Pre-use assessment
- Walk the course and check it off at the element: operating systems, structures, equipment and environment, with notes and photos where something needs attention.
- 3. Gear and rope check
- Pick ropes from the register, which already shows each rope's accrued load count and flags any that have reached the retirement guideline.
- 4. Run the session
- Log the group: people, staff, elements used and headcount. Rope loads accrue from the headcount against the elements used.
- 5. Record what happened
- Capture incidents and near-misses against the session, the element and the people involved, alongside the facilitator's own reflections.
- 6. Sync and report
- Back in range, the device syncs. The office can generate a PDF or HTML report and share it by email.
Working without a signal
Nothing special is required of staff. Records are written to the device first and queued; when the device reconnects, the queue syncs on its own.
- A pending-items indicator shows anything that has not reached the cloud yet.
- Nothing leaves the queue until the server confirms it, so a dropped connection does not lose a record.
- A retried upload does not create a duplicate — records carry stable identifiers.
- If a device has been offline a long time, its writes are checked against the record's current state rather than silently overwriting newer work.
Installing it on a device
There is no app store download. Open the site in the browser on the phone or tablet and add it to the home screen — it then launches like any other app and starts without a network. Any current browser works; there is no requirement for a particular vendor or operating system.
Common questions
The FAQ covers what happens when two people edit the same record offline, how a rope's load count is calculated, who can see participant medical information, and how to get your data out.
